Promote Your Band on Facebook in Just 2 Clicks

by Jed on May 5, 2010 · 23 comments

Facebook is a critical promotional vehicle for Artists, as there are more people (and potential fans) using the site every day than almost anywhere else on the internet.

As a result, we’ve recently added a new feature that allows any Artist to capitalize on the free promotional opportunities at Facebook in just 2 clicks.

Its our new Facebook Sharing Widget, and you can learn how to use it right now with this video:

Promote Your Band On Facebook In Two Clicks from ReverbNationBlog on Vimeo.

The Facebook sharing widget contains your:

  • Songs
  • Pics
  • Videos
  • Bio
  • Show Schedule
  • Store:  T-shirts, Hats, Ringtones, CD’s, Digital Downloads and more (available for purchase without leaving facebook)

Fans and potential Fans can engage, interact, and even buy your products and tickets to your shows.

In addition, the Facebook sharing widget makes it easy for Fans to:

  1. Share it with their friends (and then their friends’ friends)
  2. Join your mailing list

Still not sure how to use this viral product?  We have an illustrated step-by-step after the jump:

Start by navigating to your ReverbNation profile, and simply click on the Facebook icon at the top of the profile here:

You can then add a comment to the resulting widget (such as, ‘New songs available’):

The widget is posted into your Facebook stream as well as the stream of all of your friends on Facebook:

When clicked, the widget opens and automatically starts playing:

As a bonus, if you are a MyBand application user, you can also attach the sharing widget to any message you send in Facebook by clicking on the down arrow in the attachments area:

The message received looks like this:

What are you waiting for?  It takes about 5 seconds to use. Let us know what you think by adding a comment to this post. We’re always listening to users.

How does this work for people using Facebook on the iPhone or iPad? Can they play our tunes on their device now or does it use Flash?

johnny beane May 6, 2010 at 1:11 AM

Will look into it.
Thanks for the info!

Jed May 6, 2010 at 1:13 AM

It uses flash currently. We are looking into html 5 options for all of our flash widgets.

I am a fan of this feature. It would be great if we could share “our favorites” and suggested artists as well. This way we can co-promote with the bands we enjoy and engage more of our fan base by pushing someone other than ourselves!

I think RN is the best site for music artists and listeners, there’s a lot of superb music here and I’ve had nothing but positive results, kudos to you all. This widget/share feature for FB is brilliant! :-)

This no longer seems to work for individual songs?

@aaron,
We are fixing this right now. Thanks for pointing it out.

Facebook is critical for promotion, so it’s nice you’re covering this. I hope more bands pick up on the recent trend of using Ustream and other live streaming sites, and promote more of their stuff virally (and live!). Twitter and Facebook cover real-time interaction, but don’t have the excitment of some other innovations in the music space.

St Paul Peterson June 20, 2010 at 2:11 PM

I have tried this, and it will share to my profile, but that is NOT what I want. I want to share it with my fan page. Any ideas on how to do that, as it always seems to default to my personal FB page?
Thanks so much!
