The Explorers Club Selected to Perform at Earth Day

Charleston, South Carolina band The Explorers Club was selected to perform at Sunday’s Earth Day event on the National Mall in Washington, DC. We can’t imagine a better stage to share their positive energy and sunny outlook than this massive celebration.

This year’s all-day event will feature A-list musical talent as well as prominent speakers and celebrities, including Cheap Trick, Dave Mason and Kicking Daisies. Over 100,000 people are expected to attend. Plus, in addition to live news coverage and global webcasts, YouTube will stream the entire day’s events.

When asked about the opportunity, The Explorers Club band leader Jason Brewer said, “We thought it would be great to play in front of a large audience in DC.  We hope that our fun and sunny sound will translate well to the Earth Day crowd.”

On their way north to DC, the band took time to stop in North Carolina, performing this morning on Charlotte Today. Take a look at the video of their performance and listen to “Run, Run, Run.”

The Explorers Club is: Jason Brewer (guitars, keyboards, vocals), Dave Ellis (guitars, mandolin, accordian, percussion, vocals), Wally Reddington III (bass, vocals), Justin James (guitar, steel guitar, vocals), Paul Runyon (keyboards, vocals), and Kyle Polk (drums). Photo by Matthew Carter.

The Explorers Club hit #27 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart in February with their new album, “Grand Hotel.” Mark Linett, who mixed The Beach Boys’ “SMiLE” for Capitol Records, was responsible for the mix on “Grand Hotel.”

Says AllMusic.com of the new album: “Most bands vehemently deny that they’re attempting to overtly re-create the sound of their influences, often going to great lengths to distance themselves from their inspirations. The Explorers Club… are experts at the art of homage. …While there’s an undeniable, late-‘60s sunshine pop vibe to many of the arrangements here… more than anything, Grand Hotel seems concerned with offering up tunes that could have been hits on early-‘70s AM radio.”

While we can’t all make it to DC this weekend, we can join the over one billion people observing Earth Day — the only event celebrated simultaneously around the globe by people of all backgrounds, faiths and nationalities. Let us know where you are and what you’re doing to observe Earth Day this year in the comments below.
