After traveling over 80,000 road miles and playing over 500 shows in 30 plus states, it's easy to say that Smooth Hound Smith knows a thing or two about touring. We recently chatted with the foot stompin' American roots duo about touring, life on the road, and more.
How do you start planning for a tour?
At the beginning, planning for a tour revolved almost entirely around getting the shows in place. For the first three-and-a-half years we were a band, I sat at my computer or with my phone for several hours a day and booked nearly everything for us. I had a system that involved multiple open browser windows: one to find a venue and check it out and see if it was a good fit, one to send the promoter an email (or follow-up email), one of a map I could refer to if I didn’t know how far a drive was between two cities, etc…

Goldmine Magazine shared an alternate video version of KaiL Baxley’s riveting “Mirrors of Paradise,” off his sophomore LP, A Light That Never Dies. In the alternate version of the video, we see two parallel love stories, one happening in real time and the other in reverse. KaiL told Goldmine, “I was approached by a group of filmmakers here in Los Angeles. The director Orlando Rashid said he’d had a vision while listening to my song and asked if he could make it into a video. I was so honored by the gesture and of course said yes. He and his team did a really nice job and I thought they put a great spin on the video. It’s wild how one thing can inspire another and something completely brand new and different is born. That’s the beauty of art.”
Following last year’s impressive debut single, “Heavy Shoulders,” L.A-based singer TRACE unleashed her second single, “Honey,” on Stereogum.

How did you guys meet?
We met in school, we were about 5 years old.
What’s the dance scene like right now in Brazil and how would you compare it to the scene in the US or Europe?
I would say we have one of the best scenes in the world, we have an island called Florianopolis, which we could compare to Ibiza, we have 6 of the best clubs in the top 100 in the world, the biggest festivals, and so many Brazilian artists are getting big! We probably have the best dance scene in the world.
