Ready Those Engines: How To Survive As A Performer At Sturgis Buffalo Chip

Ozzy Osbourne. Aerosmith. Zac Brown Band. Kid Rock. The Doobie Brothers. These are just a few legends who have performed at the world’s largest motorcycle festival, Sturgis Buffalo Chip, and this year 5 bad-ass ReverbNation bands will be selected to play at the nine-day festival. The Best Party Anywhere® is located three miles east of Sturgis, SD, on 600 scenic acres of open land. Sturgis isn’t like any other festival; audience members rev their engines to show their approval of an artist, there are nonstop bike races and art exhibitions, and even though you’ll run into people from all walks of life, there’s a huge sense of solidarity.

For an emerging band this can be quite a memorable experience, and that’s why we got the scoop from festival organizer, Daymon Woodruff, on some essential things every artist needs to know before heading to Sturgis Buffalo Chip: have few good covers in your arsenal, consider playing more than one night, read the Essential Guide, and most of all don’t be scared to get a little dirty and have A LOT of fun.

Define Your Unique Brand: Insights From Sunset Music Festival’s Organizer

There’s no doubt that electronic music has become of the fastest growing genres out there, and over the years we’ve seen the rise of EDM in festival circuits. Now in its sixth consecutive year, Sunset Music Festival has witnessed explosive growth to firmly position itself as one of the largest electronic music festivals in the United States. The 2016 edition housed 60,000 dance fans for a raucous Memorial Day weekend celebration, and this year they’re opening up a 45-minute time slot to one lucky ReverbNation artist. We spoke to festival organizer and Vice President of Donnie Disco Presents, Evan Bailey, to get an inside look at Sunset Festival. Keep on reading to find out what sets Sunset Festival apart, their booking process, and what you can do to become part of the festival movement.

Inspiration Behind “This is Why I Need You”: I got really sick with Lyme Disease back in 2012, and had to take more than two years off from playing music before I finally got better. “This Is Why I Need You” was the first song I wrote when I got healthy. It’s a song that acknowledged all of the people in my life who helped me get through that period. It is a song that means so much to me, and it’s been really great to see people have such a strong positive reaction to it.
Touring in Europe: There’s this great company that finds artists from the US and UK and brings them over to Germany to tour for a month. I’d never been, so it was a great way to see the whole country while also playing 25 shows in a month. It was really exhausting, but really fun. I may or may not have gotten too drunk and lost my passport my first night there (but then I totally got it back the next day!). I would love to do another tour in Europe.
Fun Fact: I’m never sure what qualifies as a “fun” fact. I have a twin sister. I’m really good at ultimate frisbee. And my feet are two different sizes, which makes buying shoes a nightmare.
