Rock the stage at Hammerfest V: In Fear of the Dragon

Location: North Wales, UK
Genre: Metal, Thrash Metal, Stoner Metal, Doom Metal

Hammerfest V: In Fear of the Dragon, the fifth Hammerfest presented by Metal Hammer and Hard Rock Hell, is booking three ReverbNation bands to play at Hammerfest 5 taking place at the Haven site in North Wales. Chosen bands will receive lodging onsite (apartment or mobile home) and a drinks rider. Fifty runners-up will be chosen to receive day passes for up to six people. Bands playing the festival include Saint Vitus, Killing Joke and Candlemass. Past bands at Hammerfest include Suicidal Tendencies, 5 Finger Death Punch, Anthrax and Skindred, and more.

About Hammerfest V: After last years “Nordic fun,” the organizers now migrate their Metal Valhalla over to the far east for some ancient Japanese inspiration and culture. Hammerfest IV had to have been one of the most enjoyable gigs that the festival has done to date and was certainly the biggest. With that in mind, the festival has upped the quality of the accommodations, the eateries, the venues, the rigs and made it an even bigger metal experience for 2013. With a 12th century Japanese Samurai culture as their back drop, they embark on yet another metal voyage, taking their metal model to Pwllheli in North Wales. As ever, they will have three stages and over 50 bands in tow as the HF Oathsworn take a trip to a new destination and an all new show.

This gig is for you, metal heads! >

Top 3 things musicians need in 2013

Hey musicians, what are your resolutions for 2013? Want to release a new album? Find new fans? Help others? Make it big or just pay the bills? If you’re like a lot of Reverb artists, it’s probably all of the above.

Well, listening to you (and a couple of million other musicians around the world) we’ve boiled it down to three things:

  1. Get more fans
  2. Sell more music
  3. Save money

Am I right? In that case, ReverbNation’s got you covered. Follow our advice below to start the new year off right:

1. GET MORE FANS

Think about it. You already spend money on instruments, on food and gas when you’re touring, on beer when you’re gigging. You should be thinking of promotion as just as important as putting gas in the van, just as rewarding as a cold one after a show.

I have a friend who spent almost $10,000 on his new album, but then he didn’t do anything to promote it. Does it sound familiar?

Maybe it’s not the investment that’s holding you back. A lot of bands just don’t know where to begin. That’s precisely why we developed Promote It. We’ve made it drop dead simple to create custom ads to promote your music on all the sites music fans flock to:  Pandora, YouTube, Facebook, Billboard, MTV and hundreds of others. Trust me when I say, you WANT to be where they are. Plus, it’s completely affordable — campaigns start at just $5/day. And if you’ve never tried Promote It, we’ll even let you run your first campaign absolutely FREE.

“With Promote It, I can get the same type of promotion as a major label and still be on an indie budget. Promote It is such an easy and effective way to get new fans for my music.”

Whatever you’ve got going on — a new album release, a new song or a new video (coming soon) — we know that Promote It is the best and easiest way to get the word out there, get heard and gather in new fans. If you can think of any better way, let us know in the comments!

Try Promote It now. Free trial available for first time Promote It customers >>

2. SELL MORE MUSIC… WHILE HELPING OTHERS

Have you heard? We’ve just launched a new program called Music for Good and we couldn’t be more excited! For the first time ever, you can now choose to sell your songs directly from your Reverb profile.

Artists choosing to participate select a charity they’d like to support and for every $1.29 song they sell, half the proceeds go to their new non-profit partner.

Music For Good is the new way to sell music.

We’ve never done anything like this before, but it’s really a natural. We know that musicians like to support good causes — whether it’s an indie band playing a local fundraiser or a major celebrity effort for disaster relief. Musicians have influence, they have power. Can you imagine what 2.5 million ReverbNation musicians can do?? Together we know you can have a huge impact fighting disease, hunger, poverty and more — all while spreading beautiful music.

PLUS — and this is very important — we believe this partnership will help every artist sell more music. It gives people a reason to pull out the credit card on music again. It kicks piracy in the butt!

The way we see it (and we think you’ll see it too), the Music For Good program accomplishes two things: it supports charities AND it gets fans to spend money on music again. It’s good for charities and it’s good for your wallet. As a bonus, it’s good for your soul.

Are you an artist, but not on Reverb?

Already on Reverb?

Music fans: Want to buy some music and help a charity?

3. SAVE MONEY

This one’s a no brainer. If you already use one of ReverbNation’s premium services (press kits, digital distributions, newsletters, etc), or even paid services from another site, the smart thing is to switch to the Pro Bundle.

For less than $20 a month, you get ALL of the core marketing services you need to manage your career and more. Yes — digital press kit, email templates, a mobile app, widgets, plus digital distribution that expands every year — while the price stays the same. Holy smokes. That’s less than topping off your gas tank, buying Starbucks lattes for your friends, or getting a large 3-topping pizza in New York!

The Pro Bundle costs less per month than a large 3-topping pizza from Domino’s in NYC.

You’ll save mega bucks AND because it’s all in one spot, you’ll save time. I mean, if you prefer, you could go to Sonicbids for your press kit, Tunecore for your digital distribution, and FanBridge for your newsletter, Mobile Roadie for your mobile app, etc etc… but why go through the trouble of logging in at eight sites different sites when you can use just one? Plus you’ll get the added bonus of having just one super great support team to answer any questions. Like I said, it’s a no brainer.

Start marketing your music now >>

That’s it, folks. We truly believe the tools mentioned above will help you achieve your marketing goals in 2013. Our mission is — and always has been — ARTISTS FIRST. Now go out and make some awesome music!

And let us know what your 2013 resolutions are in the comments below.

Performed at Yonder Mountain String Band’s Harvest Music Festival 2012…

Folk band The Ragbirds.

With a brand new album in 2012, the up-and-coming Michigan band The Ragbirds has been traveling the country with their “infectious global groove” gathering a passionate grassroots fan base of all ages. While playing at the Harvest Music Festival back in October, The Ragbirds had the pleasure to share stage with Yonder Mountain String Band, Leftover Salmon, The Jayhawks, Punch Brothers, Joe Purdy, and others.

Played a secret pop-up gig organized by Sofar Sounds in Brooklyn…

Pop electronic artist Adam Tronsen didn’t let the “acoustic only” request stop him and his band from submitting to the opportunity; instead, they adapted their music to the audience and did an amazing job at it. Sofar Sounds has created a movement which brings music lovers together in secret living room locations to hear some of the world’s most cutting edge artists.

“I heard about it through ReverbNation, and checked out the Sofar Sounds website. I saw that they only featured acoustic acts but I figured what the hell and applied anyway. I’ve been submitting to certain events for a few months now so it surprised me when I actually heard back from this one. It was only one week in advance, I was scheduled to work the night of the show, and I wasn’t sure if my band mates could play that night, but it was great to have been “chosen” so I said yes to it. We had to rework our playing technique and I had to adjust some progamming but it ended up going really well. I’d be happy to do it again.”

Featured on Subbacultcha! Magazine…

Californians Haster gained international exposure by being featured on a Dutch magazine. Subbacultcha! is an independent, multidisciplinary music and culture platform from Amsterdam. Their main goal is to use their platform to promote challenging, uncompromising, cutting edge artists and provide them with the audience that they deserve.

“We heard about it through the opportunities ReverbNation sends out daily and we were able to submit our music for free into the entry and we so happen to be selected for the article. We submit our music all the time for anything that fit our music genre. We won before, we got a slot to play the Lunar Festival in Jan 2013 but we unfortunately can’t play it since our singer will be in South Africa. It was really exciting to be chosen for this. Any avenue where we can show people our music and get some added exposure is critical for an unsigned band like Haster. Every person that sees our name/hears our music gives us better odds of getting noticed in the big mainstream of the music industry.”

-Haster

Played at the 2nd Annual Holiday Jamboree (For Grownups)…

The alternative rock band The NowhereNauts won a spot at the 2nd Annual Holiday Jamboree (For Grownups!) — a musical and dance extravaganza that took place at DROM NYC on December 18th.

“We’re always looking for chance to play in the city (New York), either with friends, or bands coming to town, etc… ReverbNation has made our searches easier. Unfortunately, we had missed the Holiday Jamboree last year, but when the opportunity presented itself through a ReverbNation email/request for participants — we jumped at the opportunity to be part of it! We’ve submitted to five, maybe six events, and this was the first performance event that we were able to be part of.  It was great to be selected. We’re rather particular about what we we’re willing to submit to, because you don’t want to get invited to a music festival where people just aren’t interested in your music! The Holiday Jamboree was a great fit for us, so we were very happy to have been chosen! The show was great. The venue (Drom NYC) was especially helpful and Jennifer Logue (organizer) was really terrific about information, and set times, and organizing the whole thing to benefit New York Cares for hurricane Sandy relief.”

-The NowhereNauts

Chosen the Colorado Music Buzz’s ReverbNation Artist of the Month…

Alternative rock band Crown Point was chosen the Colorado Music Buzz’s artist of the month in November. Crown Point’s new album Curtains was released November 13th, and they’re currently touring the US in support of it.

“It seems to us that playing music is about more than entertainment.  We’ve done our best to do some tangible good with the opportunities we’ve been given, and have worked with some organizations we believe in, like the American Red Cross, the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association, the March Of Dimes, the Muscular Dystrophy Association, and Forward Edge International. We’ll be donating a percentage of the sales of our upcoming album to Tucker-Maxon, an amazing school for hearing-impaired children in Portland. If you’d like us to play a benefit show for a cause that you, and we, believe in, please let us know.”

-Crown Point

Who’s dominated passed seasons? West Virginia native Landau Eugene Murphy Jr. beat out thousands of acts, to take home the coveted $1 million grand prize last season. He has since signed with Columbia/SYCO records and released his first album, “That’s Life,” this past November. Murphy Jr. is currently touring in select U.S. cities.

Mississippi-born soul singer Michael Grimm was recently crowned the winner of the fifth season’s competition. The win moved the humble soul singer to tears as he took home the show’s $1 million prize. Grimm, who promised to build his grandparents a house when he won “America’s Got Talent,” fulfilled that promise in mid-March, when Thomas and Laurie Butters moved into their new home in Mississippi. The couple, who raised Grimm and his sister, had lost their Hancock County home to Hurricane Katrina. He has also just signed a record deal with Epic records. Season 5 also brought national attention to then-10-year-old classical singer Jackie Evancho, who has gone on to release several best-selling albums.

Season 4 winner Kevin Skinner released his debut album, “Long Ride,” in 2010. One of that season’s finalists, Recycled Percussion, are currently headlining their own show at the Tropicana Las Vegas Theater.

Season 2 winner Terry Fator – a ventriloquist from Dallas, Texas – achieved his lifelong dream when he was crowned the second season champion. After the win, he went on to sign a five-year, $100-million-dollar deal to headline at the Mirage in Las Vegas.
