Hi Savannah Lynne, congratulations on winning the Marriott Rewards® Credit Card Battle of the Bands! You grew up on the islands of Hawaii and moved to Nashville when you were 14. How did both environments influence your music style?
Growing up on Maui, I was surrounded by many different types of music which also included country. I found I was drawn more to country than the other genre, however I did listen to many other genres during this time as well which is reflected in my first EP “Aloha Nashville.” After living in Nashville for the past 3 years, the other genres still make their appearances in much of my writing even though I would classify myself as a country-pop artist, I don’t only write country-pop songs. I like many of my songs to straddle so many lines that depending on the producer who cuts the song, they could fall into more than just the country-pop genre.

Hey Gundelach, thanks for being part of our series. Before we start, can you tell us about yourself?
Hey! My name is Kai, and I am an artist/producer from Norway.

We read you immersed yourself in Oslo’s club scene at the age of 16. What drew you into that specific scene? What was the Oslo club scene like back then and how has it evolved?
Yeah, that’s true. The music is what drew me into the scene! The club culture in Oslo is great, it was back then and still is. Now all the best clubs in Oslo have great soundsystems which is cool, the bookings are also better than ever.

Hey TRACE what’s good? Thanks for chatting with us! Can you tell us a little about yourself?
It’s my pleasure. And yes. Let’s see. I’m from Southern California, born and raised. Currently call Los Angeles home and want to kind of live everywhere one day. I enjoy personality tests, really good wine and when the weather is somewhere between gray and really gray. That’s probably a good start.

We’re no stranger to Cleveland powerhouse Thaddeus Anna Greene. After being a part of ReverbNation CONNECT’s The Watch List and premiering their single “Heart Out” on The FADER earlier this year, the band has been busy in the studio working on new material and playing as many festivals as possible. Read on to catch up with the band to learn about their new track “In Vein,” upcoming album, and more.

Welcome to our series! Before we get into it, can you guys introduce yourselves?
Thanks for having us. We in this thang. We’re Thaddeus Anna Greene; TJ on lead guitar and lead vocals, Anthony on drums and vocals, Ryan on guitar and vocals, and Matt on bass.

You recently unleashed your soul-drenched groove “In Vein” on The 405. Tell us about the inspiration behind the track.
LOL @ “soul-drenched”. Drenched is such a visual adjective. I like it! First off, thanks to The 405 for liking us enough to premier our music. “In Vein” is a triple entendres of sorts. (TJ) I actually knew a girl who was a junkie, ya know? She was addicted to heroin. Without getting too descriptive, I would see her change when she was high, ya know; but she was so damn pretty! I had never seen drug addiction with a face like that. So the song is kinda from the point-of-views of God and/or higher consciousness and the drugs themselves. Both of those things sort of disgrace this girl and promise her love like no other… Like a tug-of-war, and I’m just sort of watching… in awe.

Gear Talk: Dave Raymond of Hidden Hospitals

In our latest Gear Talk we caught up with Dave Raymond, front man of alt rock band Hidden Hospitals and who was recently endorsed by Jericho Guitars, to find out how he uses digital gear to bring consistency and quality control to live shows, how technology has influenced his production style, and more.

What was your first piece of equipment and how old were you?
Fender, Squier Stratocaster + Bullet amplifier. I think I was sixteen. Distortion makes any teenager feel like a god.

What do you take on the road?
We use 2 speakers, 2 mic stands, 2 small pedal boards, a trigger module and drums that are all connected to one small rack. Inside that is our MIDI I/O, interfaces, my KEMPER PROFILING AMP, a bass guitar chain and our in-ears boxes. A Macbook Pro runs our digital mixer and ABLETON LIVE. LIVE is our clock and source for all programming: MIDI control changes / program changes, samplers and all of our audio effects (vocal, bass, guitar, drums).

Hey AYER! Thanks for chatting us. Can you tell us a bit about yourself? We can’t help but fall in love with your ethereal vocals. Did you have a professional musical upbringing?
Thank you very much, and yea, I did have a very musical upbringing. Lots of voice lessons, voice-over recording gigs, and throughout my school years and into college, training in classical, choral, music theatre and studio recording. What allowed me to learn the most, though, was dissecting and trying to understand pop songs. For the longest time I couldn’t make sense of how a pop song got from point A to point B, let alone to a bridge or ending – and harmonies, forget about it. The voice has always just kind of been there, but at this point in my life I am so proud of just you know, training myself in how to write pop music, and not losing patience with my curiosity.
