Tour Diaries: Josh Savage

In 2015, U.K. born, bilingual singer/songwriter, Josh Savage, played 79 intimate shows across the U.S. and Europe with Sofar Sounds and in homes of fans. Holding the record for playing the most Sofar Sounds shows worldwide, Josh is hoping to inspire other artists with his new documentary Living Room Tours. Read on to learn about Josh’s heartfelt and inspiring Living Room Tour, how Sofar Sounds has helped in the development of his career, and more.

Hey Josh, it’s been a few months since we chatted! Give us a breakdown of your Living Room Tour.

As a new artist, it’s difficult to connect with your audience in bars and in venues where people talk over your music, text or get drunk. Often, I wonder if people even go to gigs for the music anymore. So in 2015, I played 79 shows across America and Europe in intimate environments with Sofar Sounds and in the homes of fans. It was a wonderful yet tough experience and it was a great, affordable way to kickstart my music career as a singer/songwriter.

How do you hope to inspire other artists?

I hope the documentary will show other artists that you don’t need the “go ahead” or permission from anybody to follow your dream. With the internet today, you can make your own rules.

Artist Session: Josh Savage

Singer-songwriter Josh Savage recently released his music video for “Bella,” and we chatted with him over email about what it’s like to hold the record for playing the most SoFar shows, his bilingual writing process, and more.

You recently performed in Warsaw for a TED Talk! TED Talk is LEGIT! How did you land such a rad gig and tell us about your experience.

A Polish music promoter has been inviting me to play in Poland for a while, but I was never able to fit Poland on my tours. When I was asked to play TEDx Warsaw as a special guest after the promoter’s speech, I didn’t hesitate. I said “I’m there!”.

It all happened so quickly and I was stunned by the audience’s response at the end. Some people in Poland came up to me to say they’ve been listening to my music before I had even set foot there. It was very surreal!

Artist Session: We Are Temporary

Disclaimer:  The views and opinions expressed here are those solely of the artist and do not necessarily reflect the views of ReverbNation, its affiliates, or its employees.

When did you start making music?

I started getting into music in a serious way when I was 12. My mom was an opera singer and my father, too, was a musician and worked in the industry, so I started taking piano lessons as a little boy, but it didn’t stick at first. I tried organ, oboe, choir, and drums, but it wasn’t until I got a guitar in my hand around 12 that my passion for music took hold in earnest. By 15 years of age, I was playing in punk bands, studying classical guitar, taking theory lessons, returned to the piano, and got really involved with computers, midi, and early synths. From then on, music continued to be my life’s obsession: writing; recording; touring; studying composition, audio production, and classical guitar at university, etc.
